Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) Port Forwarding

Posted in Uncategorized

One thing that I love about all news windows products is the remote desktop features. I previously used PCAnywhere but I find that remote desktop is now almost as good, would like to see a file transfer like PCAnywhere has, but remote desktop is free so that is a plus for it.

One of the tasks that I face with my network setup is forwarding ports through my router. There are two issues that I came across when dealing with the RDP forwarding. The first was what is the port number of RDP. With a quick search on Google I found that the standard RDP port is 3389.

Now that you have the port number you can simply go into your router and forward that port through and after enabling your remote desktop feature it will work from outside your network as long as you either know your IP address or have a dynamic dns service like I use. To enable remote desktop in Windows XP and Windows 2003 go to the start menu, find the my computer icon and right click on it. Select the properties option in the drop down list and then click on the remote tag in the window that appears. There you will see the two check boxes, check the second box, and then click on the remote user button. Make sure that the users you want to have access are in the list and then click ok until you have exitted all of the windows. RDP is now enabled on your machine.

So this simple setup would have worked for my network but the issue then became I have several servers that I want access to along with my desktop. Now I could just remote to my desktop and then remote to the other machines from there since they are all on the local network. This would create a lot of data that needed to be transferred though, with limited upstream speeds on your broadband connection you don’t want this, and will cause performance issues with RDP. So I had two options, I could change the registry entry like was stated in the article. I will paste that fix here just in case that page has an issue at some point:

*****
WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

You can use the Remote Desktop feature in Windows XP Professional to connect to your computer from another, remote computer. WARNING: The Remote Assistance feature in Windows XP may not work properly if you change the listening port. To change the port that Remote Desktop listens on:
Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
Locate the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetControlTerminalServerWinStationsRDP-TcpPortNumber

On the Edit menu, click Modify, click Decimal, type the new port number, and then click OK.
Quit Registry Editor.
NOTE: When you try to connect to this computer by using the Remote Desktop connection, you must type the new port.
Keywords: kbhowto kbnetwork KB306759
Technology: kbrdcMac100 kbrdcsearch kbrdcWin100 kbWinXPPro kbWinXPPro64bit kbWinXPProSearch kbWinXPSearch kbZNotKeyword

*****

The other option I had was to go into my router and specify another external port number and then point that port to the 3398 on the IP address of the machine I wanted to go to. I chose this second option as it was less time consuming and did the trick for me. One appealing thing about the ability to change the port number of RDP is security. If you leave the standard port number then anyone will know to check that port to see if you have Remote Desktop enabled and potentially compromise your network. Let me know if there are any issues with the registry fix though and if there are I will just remove it from this article.

Build Your Business Through Networking

Here’s one of the most important success principles you’ll ever learn. It is this: The more people you know and who know you in a favorable way, the more successful you will be in your business or profession.

When you look around at the most successful people in your city, industry, or profession, you will find that they are the ones who are known and respected by the greatest number of people. One of the hallmarks of highly successful men and women, and most self-made millionaires, is that they network continually, everywhere they go and with almost everyone they meet. By learning and developing the skill of networking you can move ahead faster, rise further, and accomplish more in a shorter period of time.

Networking should be an integral part of any marketing plan. Networking produces word of mouth, which in turn produces referrals. Every businessperson and professional knows that word of mouth is the most effective and least expensive approach to attracting new business. Yet few people really understand how they can create it.

Networking is making contact to establish relationships that can lead to business. Sometimes the path to business is direct; other times it is indirect leading to referrals. Often times the person who you meet at a networking event will know someone else who needs your products or services.

Many people go to networking events hoping to business right then and there, but it very rarely works that way. Business is not done directly at networking event. When you attend a networking event, your goal should be to meet two or three people, find a reason to follow-up, and start a relationship. Any future business will come from an indirect referral, someone they know who might need your products or services.

Networks often have a greater impact than their size might indicate. Each member of a network knows dozens of people who, in turn, know dozens of others, and so on. Because of this mushroom effect, a group of 30 or 40 people might know literally thousands of other people throughout the local, national, and even international business community.
The possibilities are enormous. Being a member of a well-organized network is like having dozens of salespeople working for you all the time. Each referring prospective customers your way.

Before you begin to network, you must have a positive attitude. When you join a networking group, remain focused on the reason why you’re there. Too many people go to networking events and get caught up in nit-picking, such as “the speaker was mediocre,” as so on. These factors are secondary to the quality of contacts you are making. Never loose sight of the reason why you’re there.

It is also important to understand that people buy from people they know and trust. So to effectively network you must be a good listener. Listen to the people you meet to see how you might assist them in what they do. Giving first and giving more than receiving is a very important rule of networking.

Contacts to establish relationships that can lead to business, only happen when the relationship is mutually beneficial. Networking is giving first, and then receiving. If one party does all the giving, then the relationship will not last and the networking ends. Networking relationships takes work and cooperation by all parties involved.

Networking is not a skill you are born with, it is an acquired skill. It is developed through education, training, and practice. Many business people spend plenty of time trying to network, but very few spend any time trying to learn how to do it correctly. The way you learn to network is by reading books and listening to audio programs about networking, and by talking to other people who network well. And most importantly, practice what you learn.

Before you attend any networking event you must have clearly defined, realistic goals. Most people go to networking events with the goal of handing out as many business cards as they can. This is wrong. Your goal in networking should not be to pass out business cards. Your goal should be to receive as many business cards as you can. Your goal should be to make as many contacts and get as much information as you can that will lead to increased business.

At networking events, make sure your nametag identifies your company or profession. Always carry plenty of well-designed business cards with you. Use the backs of the cards you receive from others to make notes that will help your memory kick in about each individual. And, carry a card case with the cards of other people you network with, so you can hand one to anyone interested in their services.

When you attend a networking event, greet people, hand out your card, and then ask for their card. Introduce yourself in a way that is brief, effective, and memorable. Take the time to plan and rehearse your introduction so you can make the most out of your first 60 seconds. Prepare an easy-to-understand overview of what you do, or the product or service you offer.

Here’s an example of a simple and effective introduction sequence you can use:

* Give your name.

* Give your business name or profession.

* Give a benefit statement about one particular product or service you offer that tells people what you do that benefits others.

* Then, get them to talk about themselves, and listen carefully.

The key to success in networking is follow-up. Just like any other form of marketing, it takes time to cultivate the relationship before a lead can be converted to a referral or an actual sale. You must follow-up with your new contact with an invitation to coffee, lunch, or an after-hours meeting. Always send a card, note, or e-mail to the people you’ve met within twenty-four hours after the event. Mentioning some key points from your initial contact in your follow-up note is a great relationship builder.

Always remember that the most successful people and companies are those that are the most trusted. Trust doesn’t happen overnight. You must gain the confidence of other people by nurturing long-lasting relationships. Only then will you see a steady crop of new customers, referred by the people with whom you’ve networked.

What it really comes down to is this: You can have anything you want in business, or in life, if you’re willing to help enough other people get what they want. It is a simple and time-tested universal law. Yet, it is still a mystery to so many people in business. When you send a few people a day out to help other businesses in your network, you’ll find that the door also swings the other way: thousands of customers every year will go out of their way to buy from you, because they will be driven to your business through the power of networking.

Why People Don’t Listen… and Some Fun Things You Can Do About It

It’s frustrating when your co-workers, audience members, teenager or even your dog (!) won’t listen. While you can’t control how they receive what you say, you can control how you send it. Here are a few tips on why people don’t listen and what you can do to change it.

1. Short Attention Spans

When asked to guess the average adult attention span, most people say around thirty minutes. According to statistics, however, the average adult attention span is actually only seven seconds. That’s right! Every seven seconds you go away somewhere. You think about something else. In fact, you could actually be taking a mental break right now! It is a normal part of how the brain integrates external stimuli like when your computer starts defragging for a moment while you type. It helps to pause from time to time when you speak. This allows people to integrate your information or ask a clarifying question. Also, include examples to anchor your concepts. For example (see–I’m doing it now!), a concept without an example is like tree without roots, a house without a foundation, or Sonny without Cher. It just doesn’t have as much staying power.

2. Too Many Distractions

I was in a meeting the other day and five people coughed, four people side talked, three cell phones rang, two people went to the restroom, and a partridge did email on his PDA. Distractions are a big part of modern life. Your best bet is to acknowledge the distractions in a playful way such as a manager who recently led a meeting I attended. When a cell phone rang, he grabbed for it and said, “Oh, that’s for me….my mother likes to check in on me from time to time”. That prompted everyone to turn off their phones.

3. Lack of Training

Few of us were formally taught how to listen. While you probably took Reading 8, Writing 11, did you ever take Listening 10? It’s little wonder listening is challenging. Quite accidentally, I learned how to listen by practicing meditation. After a five-day retreat, I felt very light-hearted and so went to visit my aging father who was hard of hearing. My habit was to sit vacantly for hours while he complained about his arthritis, the error on his bank statement, and how hard it is to find good slippers. After this retreat, I surprised myself by totally paying attention to him with patience and compassion. After about ten minutes of complaining he suddenly changed tracks and started telling me fascinating and funny stories about his childhood. Then he cranked up his hearing aid and asked about me! Learn how to be present with people, give them your full, undivided attention and be ready for some pleasant surprises.

4. Language Barriers

It is no secret that the world of business is fast becoming a multicultural world. Although English is the default language of commerce, many people in your audience may speak English as a second language. Last month I was addressing a large insurance company where most attendees turned out to be new immigrants from China. I used the expression “getting jiggy with it”, and I saw people rifling through their dictionaries. This prompted me to say “I’m sorry, that went way over your head”, and a number of people looked up at the ceiling! If your listeners are ESL or have a more basic educational background, you need to simplify your language. Use much more literal descriptions rather than cultural expressions. Use facial and body language to express humor, and fewer words.

5. Unchecked Assumptions

Back in the 70s, Gilda Radner a comedienne who regularly performed on Saturday Night Live was well known for her popular character Emily Litella, a social activist with a hearing problem. Her causes included such important issues as violins on television, soviet jewelry and endangered feces. Believe it or not, those Emily Litella types can be found in your audiences. For example, I once told a story about my mother who was a secretary for the British Civil Service in WWII. She spent most of her time daydreaming that her boss would burst into the room and ask her to spy against the Germans. She could leave the nasty paperwork behind, don a disguise and become the next Mata Hari. Needless to say, one day her boss did burst into the room but instead he fired her for daydreaming all the time. A woman approached me after this story and told me that she used to be a Hari Krishna, too. One way to clear up false assumptions is to state your point in many different ways.

6. No Reason to Listen

Finally, the main reason people don’t listen is because you haven’t answered their favorite question: “What’s in it for me?” Before you start a long-winded monologue, tell your listener why you need their attention and make sure they understand how it will be benefit them. For example, “I’d like to tell you about this free software that will block all the spam before it gets to your Inbox …interested?” That will give you much better results than “When I was a youngster and I sat down in front of my first computer, I asked myself how can I make this machine work for me…” In general, put yourself in your listener’s shoes before you talk and their ears tend to perk up.

And just remember the greatest of all wisdom–no one ever listened himself out of a new friendship.

Canned Sales Presentations Just Don’t Work Today

Flip charts and slides shows (”canned presentations”) make the best sales product or service promotions because, “a picture is worth a thousand words,” right? Well it depends!

Stanford University’s Research Institute’s VALS study (values, altitudes and life styles) lists five distinct psychographic categories (personalities) or buying decision-making modes. What the Stanford research means to you as a sales manager is that a given picture may not appeal to one or more of the buying mind-sets (Belongers, Achiever, Emulator, etc.) outlined in the study. Using a flip chart or slides as your primary presentation tool can cost you sales, especially if you just walk through each page or play each slide as an outline of your products or service’s features and benefits.

Flip charts and slide presentations must be generic by nature and rarely focus on a decision-maker’s specific needs except for a few slides or pages. From the Stanford research, using this selling approach means that you have one chance in five of appealing to your decision-maker’s primary buying mode depending on the layout and copy theme of the slides or chart.

Slide shows or flip chart presentations are valuable tools if used to highlight specific selling pointspoints based in the information that your staff members uncover from their in-depth probing (using a consultative selling system) of a prospective customer or client’s needs. The myth of using a “canned sales pitch” and the field-tested and proven selling methods to replace defective techniques are outlined in the “best selling” 101 Sales Myths manual published by The $elling Edge®, Inc. (http://TheSellingEdge.com/myths3.htm) The techniques listed are are based in a proven consultative selling process that eliminates most of the fear and pressure associated with traditional presentation approaches.

The Eight Miracle Sugars (What is the big deal about glyconutrients?)

Glyconutrients are composed of eight simple sugars:

1) Mannose
2) Glucose
3) Galactose
4) Xylose
5) Fucose (not fructose)
6) N-acetyglucosamine
7) N-acetylgalctosamine
8) N-acetylineuramnic acid

The eight sugars are referred to as the building blocks needed to produce ‘glyco proteins’ in our body. Cell to cell communication is the number one touted benefit of these glyco proteins.

But when you break down each sugar separately is there really a benefit here? When I think of sugar, I think of ‘table sugar’ which we typically refer to as sucrose or frucose. So how can sugar help our bodies?

To further complicate matters, if these sugars are available in simple plants and fruits - why do we need to take a glyconutrient supplement?

According to the booklet “The Miracle Sugars”, Glyconutrients are found in aloe vera, astragalus, saps, gums, garlic, certain mushrooms, yeasts, husks, breast milk, coconut meat, echinacea, maize, pectins from fruits, some algae, certain herbs. Aloe vera … contains mannose, galactose and arabinose. The leaves of this plant are extremely rich in polysaccharides (long-chain sugars) that give aloe its healing and anti-infection properties when used both externally and internally. Its mannose content is what makes aloe a superior immune booster.”

The answer to my question in the previous paragraph is quite simple. When is the last time you sat down and ate an Aloe leaf instead of an apple? Or better yet, have you ever snacked on algae?

While I agree there is a lot of hype on the market about glyconutrients, the reality is our diets simply do not contain the proper plants and vegetables for humans (or pets for that matter) to consume significant doses of glyconutrients. Even if we were able to do so; the depleted soil and our ever deteriorating environmental conditions reduce the true benefit we would receive from eating these types of plants and fruits.

Let’s assume for a moment we believe that glyconutrients are the real deal. After all, there is a lot of research out there that tell us this. The following is a quote from a well know Doctor on the efficacy and benefits of glyconutrients.

“The biggest revolutionary change in the war against disease is represented by glyconutrients. Glyconutrients are taking their place as one of the pivotal classes of nutrients. I know this not only because of the medical studies but also by the profound effects it has had toward promoting health in my patients that had been lacking over the past 20 years”.
— Michael D. Schlachter, M.D., Board Certified Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Disease Clinical Instructor, University of Nevada Medical School.

So we believe these sugars really can help our bodies. We have establisehd that we can’t feasibly eat the correct fruits and plants ourselves. Where do we find a good glyconutrient supplement? At first I would say, do some internet research. After all, I am writing this article and posting it on the internet.

But wait - the internet is also filled with a lot of people that want to get rich quick and don’t mind scamming people in the process to do that.

So, how do we tell the good glyco supplements from the bad ones? Start with comparing apples and apples. All supplements are partially regulated by the FDA. If somebody is making an ‘outrageous’ claim of a cure, it is too good to be true. Next, is the company you are buying the supplement from a publicly traded company? Why is this important you might ask? Simple - the SEC has strict guidelines for companies being posted on the stock exchange. The mere fact that a company has made it this far gives you a huge insight into their business practices.

Next - make sure you visit the only TWO FDA approved Glyconutrient websites on the internet today.

www.glycoscience.org
www.nobelsugars.com

Lastly, if you had the choice between buying a glyconutrient product that had millions of dollars of research behind it vs. a product that focussed on marketing which one would you choose? There is only one glyconutrient manufacturer in the world currently that has 20 patents on their formulation. Their competitors do not.

Although I am not the biggest fan of the FDA let’s face facts. They do add value to our society. We may argue how much value they add; but it’s there. Its very difficult to get an FDA patent on a nutritional supplement in this country. If it were easy, every glyconutrient supplement maker would have one.

I decided to close this article with one simple thought. We will be debating for years how truly effective glyco supplements are. But we all agree that they are non toxic and completely safe. After all, they are plant and fruit based. If you are suffering from a serious auto immune disorder and/or a life threatening disease, honestly what do you have to lose by trying glyconutrients? What’s your worse case scenario - you still have the disease and lose your battle with it? What if? What if these glyconutrients could ease your pain? What if some people saw benefits in them? What if some people actually saw a reversal in their symptoms or in the illness itself? I don’t know about you; but if I was dying and I thought rubbing my entire body with crisco would give me an outside chance of living - I would do it.

Sometimes, the only way to really separate the truth from the hoaxes is to find out for yourself. Testimonials and research are great; but at the end of the day only you can determine what is BS vs. what is fact.

David Filer is a fulltime corporate professional that experienced first hand the benefits of glyconutrients. His story is unique in the fact that he gave his glyconutrients to his dying dog. He chose to find out for himself what worked vs. what didn’t.

His goal is to challenge others to do their research and make their own informed decision. Glyconutrients are not for everybody; but they may just be the answer that some people are looking for.

Discover what David has learned and why he has chosen to educate others about glyconutrients.

Grist for the Mill

Picture a beautiful holiday card featuring an artistic rendition of a snow

a scene done in soft pastels, or a nicely framed oil depicting a weathered barn in a field of poppies. These finished products and many more like them have one thing in common - a photograph.

An annual vacation presents a wonderful opportunity to start a collection of photographs for later development into a work or art. Someday you will have the time and interest to turn this raw material into watercolors, digital art, oil paintings or attractive, cropped, matted and framed photographs.

When on vacation, be prepared, mentally and equipment-wise, to record the basic images needed for enhancement. Cloudy skies need not concern you for nicer skies can be painted into the scene. Important are the basic lines of the photograph and the quality of light on the subject. The light from a dying sun can highlight details missed in other light. The

glow of dusk can create a warm, friendly mood, enhancing everything with a rose tinted mood while preserving the shadows in a cool shade.

A trip to the ocean could contain a foray on the beach at dawn. Sand dunes and beach grass, old boats drawn up on the beach, and macro shots of sea shells head the list of possibilities. Pictures that include the shoreline present an opportunity of creating an ‘S’ curve in your composition. Super close ups of patterned grains of sand make wonderful abstract art when processed through your computer software.

Arboretums and botanical gardens are a gold mine of photogenic subjects. Tree peonies, day lilies and mountain laurel make wonderful close up subjects for the camera. Look for curved lines, solid color masses of flowers and back lit plants. Winding paths supply a perfect lead in to a white gazebo or rose arbor. Be creative.

Every vacation contains the seeds of great compositions: Disneyland, river rafting, or a journey by car through the wilds of Canada are favorite fodder for the creative juices to work on. A European tour places you in romantic narrow streets filled with canopied shops, ancient signs and photogenic locals. Two weeks in the mountains skiing could include one early morning exploring a local forest, climbing up to a lookout point or capturing skaters on a pond. Then transform these ordinary scene into wonderful works of art with the creative talents lurking inside your artistic photographer’s soul.

Stag Party Ideas

Stag Party
Way, way, way back in history the stag party was celebrated in all sorts of ways, and you thought it was a modern day invention, shame on you.

The Vikings stag party would consist of flagons of ale, pillaging, buxom wenches and fighting, well they did think they would only go to heaven if they died in a fight.

Poor Henry VIII, he had more stag parties then a busy working girl in Amsterdam. Do you think he chopped the heads off his wives because he was addicted to stag parties ?? Wow, we are writing history here!

These days, the majority of us have been on holiday with large groups of friends, been to University together, partied together its like getting divorced from your friends and getting married to the one you love. Its not like you won’t see your friends again, is it?

With this being said, maybe it is like being reborn. After the days of Singledon and getting frightfully drunk with your friends maybe it is a time for change, a time for settling down and giving your liver a rest!

Surprise, surprise not everyone drinks so some of these comments would not apply, if you would like further information on Where to go, what to do, how to keep drunken pests in the group at bay click on the following links ” stag Weekend ” &” Stag Night “.

Your Finances - What’s the Real Reason Behind the Growing Debt Crisis?

The CCCS (Consumer Credit Counselling Service) have just published a report stating that the number of high earners requesting help has risen by 257% in the past three years. It seems that a high salary is no longer any protection against the creeping menace of debt.

This fact is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of the real issue that’s now developing. When people get to the stage of calling the CCCS for help then things have usually got to crisis level and they’re looking for any way out. There are countless more people who are on a collision course to the same crisis who have yet to take any action to solve it.

What’s the real reason behind this? Well there are two main reasons and they’re both connected.

Firstly, most people earning over £30,000 simply don’t feel they have the time to sort out their finances. There are too many other pressures and priorities. So money always gets left until last and then it seems too overwhelming. And then it’s just ignored until it hurts. And with the average debt of those who call the CCCS running at £70,000, that’s a lot of hurt.

Secondly, most people don’t feel they understand money and finance. They have a low level of financial literacy. And they don’t have the time to find out about it either. This simply compounds the first problem because if you have limited knowledge and understanding then you’ll expect anything you do to take even longer.

Most websites, magazines, books, seminars, TV shows and newspapers seem either too complicated, too disjointed or take too much time to be useful. So you’re left wondering who to turn to and where to find information that you can use.

The real secret that most people don’t know is that in reality improving your financial literacy and managing your money can be done in just a few minutes a week. It simply takes some guidance and a little bit of planning.

Once you get it into your routine it starts to become a habit that grows with you. The more you do it, the easier and faster it is to do it. Those who have cracked this secret look back and wonder what prevented them from this in the first place. It’s so much easier to see the reality from the other side.

So you need to make sure that you’re not about to become another part of the growing statistic that represents the debt crisis and take that small amount of time to get started on your own financial recovery.

You need to find the ways to get started and allow that seed of action to begin to grow and develop. Just beginning will open your eyes, and you’ll soon be finding the answers you need and seeing more opportunities to improve and grow your money even more.

When Do you Think is the Leading Moment to Introduce Vibes Into a Relationship?

Posted in Shopping

Sex aids can be difficult to add into a relationship. Some people could notice the introduction of dongs into a beautiful marriage daunting and it will often bring up questions such as “what’s wrong with just me”? Still sexual toys could be an awesome & satisfying endeavour & dildos also help to build confidence between you & your partner. If you like dildos you should try it with your favourite Anal Toys.

Figuring out which sex toy to choose will be an adventure. A time where you and your partner can sit down and communicate about what you both want out of the endeavour and choose a sexual aid together that meets both of your wants. Don?t go straight in for the main massive marital aids, start off slowly.

Once both of you have chosen a sex aid and have had the excitement of opening your new sexual aid you and your partner need to get into the seductive mood. Soft lighting and romantic and sensual music are the perfect platform to just start off any sexual experience. Make the time romantic, unplug the phone, turn off the DVD player & focus fully on your girlfriend. Lengthy sensual stimulation before bringing out the sexy toy is a considerable idea. Soft and loving strokes heightens the sexual sensations and helps towards a very relaxing and satisfying sex session.

And please don’t forget to get into the zone, have lots of fun & enjoy it.
