The cause of America is in a great measure the cause of all mankind. Many circumstances have, and will arise, which are not local, but universal, and through which the principles of all Lovers of Mankind are affected, and in the Event of which, their Affections are interested. The laying of a Country desolate with Fire and Sword, declaring War against the natural rights of all Mankind, and extirpating the Defenders thereof from the Face of the Earth, is the Concern of every Man to whom Nature hath given the Power of feeling; of which Class, regardless of Party Censure, is the AUTHOR 4 P. S. The Publication of this new Edition hath been delayed, with a View of taking notice (had it been necessary) of any Attempt to refute the Doctrine of Independance: As no Answer hath yet appeared, it is now presumed that none will, the Time needful for getting such a Performance ready for the Public being considerably past.
America has long been a beacon of light to all oppressed peoples. We have stood for personal freedom, endless possibilities, unalienable rights (unalienable-what happened to that?). At one time we could stand with our chests out, not with bravado, but with genuine pride. We stood with the David’s of the world against Goliath. We fought for our beliefs and lived them, at least for most of us. We have been “baptized” by the fire of social injustice, economic disasters, and social consciousness to name a few, and we have emerged like the variable phoenix. Our nation has taken the hits that have broken many a regime and turned into something to be used for the greater good. Where else can you find a society that has uniquely taken the best of all your -isms, discarded (for the most part) the bad, and added it to a healthy base of diversity and respect for your neighbor? You can argue what is wrong with our society all day long, but at the root, America has always been the very best humanity had to offer on earth anyway.
Who the Author of this Production is, is wholly unnecessary to the Public, as the Object for Attention is the Doctrine itself, not the Man. Yet it may not be unnecessary to say, That he is unconnected with any Party, and under no sort of Influence public or private, but the influence of reason and principle. Philadelphia, February 14, 1776.
My own political leanings are irrelevant. It does not matter what party I call myself affiliated with, whatever that means. I am not writing to you to push anyone’s agenda. My aim is not to convert the masses, but to remind you, America of who and what you are, and to urge you take control of you government and your country.
Of the origin and design of government in general, with concise remarks on the English Constitution.
SOME writers have so confounded society with government, as to leave little or no distinction between them; whereas they are not only different, but have different origins. Society is produced by our wants, and government by wickedness; the former promotes our happiness positively by uniting our affections, the latter negatively by restraining our vices. The one encourages intercourse, the other creates distinctions. The first is a patron, the last a punisher.
A common thread in American life today is a general somnolent attitude about almost every important aspect or issue that should be a priority. We have, like children, closed our eyes, put our hands over our ears, and said, “No, no, no! We do not want to know what is really happening all around us. Our government and our troops can handle it!” Are you insane? Our government? If history has taught anything at all, it has definitely given credence to that old adage, “Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely.” We have given the government absolute power over the last three and a half to four years. Trust in government is all well and good, but it is the average American’s responsibility to keep government in line. You do not live in a monarchy where your leaders are simply born into their positions of power.
Contrary to growing sentiment, you do no live in a theocracy were your religious leaders get to make laws as they see fit. You are really not in a parliamentary system where there is no discernable separation of power between the executive and the legislative branches of government. You live in a republic (not a democracy, but we will go into that later). Any and all abuse of power invested to the legislative and executive branches of our government should be checked not only by one another (Legislative checking the executive…), but also by the citizens. If you have a representative that has been abusing power, that has questionable ethics, that has shadows following him/her, it is your duty to check said representative. If he/she refuses to be checked, it is your duty to fire said representative. If you do nothing, then you share in the corruption and rot that has blighted this nation. You handed this person power by voting for them, and yet, you are refusing to check that power.
Instead, fringe groups on the right and on the left are checking the representatives in Washington. Would you hand a teenager with a record for speeding and recklessness the keys to you car, then look the other way when the load the back seat with drunk, loud mouthed miscreants? This is different how?
I am just an average conservative hippie veteran living in a very blue pocket of a very red state.

An expert opinion about government by Kurt St. Angelo @2005 Libertarian Writers’ Bureau
When we have a plumbing problem, we call a plumber. When we have a problem with our government, we call someone who studied government. Right?
I majored in government in college. I am an attorney and the son of a former Indiana Democratic Party chairperson. I received the highest grade in my public high school class of 1,250 students in a standardized government exam. I have government, politics and law running through my veins, but does anyone ever call me with their government problems? Heck no! Everybody’s an expert on government, some just more than others.
Very few government experts, except some Libertarians, seem to know anything about our unalienable natural rights. These rights are referred to in the Declaration of Independence (1776) and in both of Indiana’s constitutions (1816 and 1851). The former reads: “WE hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness …”
Unalienable rights are natural choices - choices that Nature or our Creator gives us as our birthright, and that we cannot give up, waive or “lien” away. They are choices for which we would not naturally ask government’s permission, nor for which we can rightly be punished. The only moral and lawful limit to the exercise of our natural rights is to refrain from violating the same rights of others.
We don’t ask government’s permission to eat, breathe, drink, use the toilet or sleep. Nor do we call our favorite bureaucrat to think, pray or recreate. We also have natural rights to possess property, to contract with one another and to defend ourselves - all without the permission of government.
As well, we have the right to exchange our talents for value, called the right to work. This natural right does not mean that we have a right to a job or a certain wage. Those “rights” are actually government-bestowed privileges, called civil rights. All civil rights benefit one special-interest group at the expense of the natural rights or choices of others.
Natural unalienable rights are rights or choices that our ancestors exercised long before any governments (and their civil rights) were conceived. What made this country’s various governments different from all others before them was that they promised to protect these rights, free from the will and tyranny of those more powerful. “(T)o secure these Rights,” says the Declaration of Independence, “Governments are instituted among Men.”
I began voting Libertarian when I realized that both the Indiana General Assembly and Congress had strayed from their sole purpose to secure our natural rights and were violating them on behalf of special interest groups, including people in government.
For example, the income tax violates at least three of our natural rights: our rights to work, to contract and to the exclusive possession of our property. If we still exercised these rights, we could choose to work without first presenting a Social Security number. We would not be required to sign forms and report to the government every year, and we would take home all of our pay.
Most economic monopolies would not exist if our governments respected our natural rights to contract. We could hire whom we wanted to represent us in court, teach our children, or relieve our pain - based on their background, education and experience - not on government’s meaningless, biased and often dangerous stamps of approval.
In a world that respected our choices, there would be no licensed health-care monopoly, which uses government to protect and insulate itself from the 100,000 people it negligently kills each year. There would also be no education monopoly, run by teachers unions, to march our children into mediocrity. Injustice and ignorance are just two of the consequences when special interest groups use government to trample upon others’ rightful choices.
So hear it from a government major: Our state and federal governments’ sole legitimate function is to aid us in self-defending our own natural unalienable rights, and every single one of them is doing a horrible job at it. Almost every piece of modern legislation violates someone’s natural rights, which all the governments long ago promised to protect.
This is all because our current political leaders know less about the purpose of government than you do right now.

Can you imagine what it would be like to be able to stay in touch, anywhere, anytime? That is the major selling point of companies providing worldwide Internet access. Their goal is to keep the world in touch. The world has become a much smaller place, and businesses have expanded. Personal relationships often span the globe, instead of just the country. Worldwide travel is very common, and people want to be able to access their email, contact friends and family, and conduct business no matter what country they are currently in, even if they can’t speak the language or remember the name of the city!
There are many companies offering different types of worldwide Internet service. There is service for the business professional, who travels a lot. There is also prepaid ISPs, who offer worldwide access for occasional users. This is perfect if you are traveling out of the country and want to stay in contact with loved ones. Whatever kind of International Internet access you need, there is a company that will tailor a program for your needs.
These Internet service providers have technology for dialup, toll-free, wi-fi, broadband, etc. Whatever kind of service you need, they have. They also provide service that works with your email provider and current operating system. You can use this type of Internet access with your PC, Mac, mobile phone, or PDA. Versatility is the key.
There are also payment options to suit every budget. You can pay as you go, with your monthly invoice billed to your credit card, bank account, or online account. You can purchase prepaid time that is valid for an entire year and is good in over 115 countries, where you can access it with the same username and password. You can purchase yearly service for one lump sum. Many of these ISPs offer discounts for referrals, too. So you can spread the word to friends and business associates and get paid for doing it.
The perks with these companies are numerous. They offer 24×7x365 toll-free support in case you have a problem. Many offer warranties, and even secure VPN access if you need it. Most will let you manage your account entirely online, receiving statements and making changes to your account at any time. Some even offer valuable business tools such as emergency backup of important information. If you have a business or personal nee, chances are one of these services can help you manage it and make it simpler.
The best way to find worldwide Internet access that is right for you is to look online and talk with other people who have similar services. Many of these companies are rated online, so you can do some research about which one is best for you.

Heavens, what are we up against?
It seems these days that we are inundated with worsening situations, not just in Canada but worldwide: Increasing terrorism threats; Global arrests of Al Qaeda operatives; More corruption in our Canadian Liberal federal government; A backlash against Official Bilingualism resulting in Mini Official Bilingualism referendums, that incidentally are overwhelmingly against implementing Official Bilingualism in Canada’s Capitol; A new Republic of Western Canada demanding separation of the West from the Canadian Constitution. Worrisome issues that all Canadians should be concerned about.
Take heed, people.
There is another pending crisis that may be even more serious than all of the above that you should be aware of. A threat looms on the horizon that mainstream media mentions only in blips. A crisis that will disrupt our lives and could possibly destroy our way of life. It is time to pull our heads out of our parochial issues and understand what is happening in the rest of the world and how it will impact our lives.
Not many of we ordinary people have been paying much attention to the corporate battles raging in the oil industry. Yes, we have been angry as the price of gasoline has risen, going to almost a dollar a liter this spring. In the U.S., Americans are paying more for gasoline than at any other time in history. Perhaps it is time that we paid more attention to what is going on in the oil industry. Especially since I have seen some predictions that the price of gasoline could go as high as $10 per gallon in the U.S. And according to my research, they may not be wrong.
This is not being alarmist. I personally have been receiving reports for more than a year of the depletion of global oil reserves. But this week I received a disturbing report that even the Saudi’s oil reserves may not be as large as they have been stating. At this time they are pumping millions of gallons of salt water into the wells to sustain the pressure to pump out their oil. In other words, they may have been lying to continue their power plays in the markets. And since most of the world is dependent on oil out of Saudi Arabia to fuel the global economy, this is not good news.
Thus my research began. Wow! I found tons of information on this topic. According to a multitude of international reports from energy experts, industry insiders, geophysists’ analyses, and government organizations’ summaries, it does appear that there is a very real energy crisis facing us within the next few years. Some say oil will begin running out globally by the summer of July 2006; others who predicted 2010 now have moved up the date to 2008. See Uppsala Hydrocarbon Depletion Study Group for further details. The “peak oil” formula developed by Dr. M. King Hubbert has been on target for all major oil producing countries. Take a look at how it works… The Hubbert Peak for World Oil. Folks, please read these documents. It is extremely important. Some of this information references reports that are not yet in the public domain.
The article about Saudi Arabia triggered my instincts to consider a couple of other issues. The Republicans selected George W. Bush as their candidate for President of the United States. He the son of a former President who made his fortune in Texas oil, but who himself lost his opportunity to do the same because the oil in Texas peaked in the early 70’s. A man who understood oil peaks since there was no more oil industry for the son to make his own fortune.
Then there was Dick Cheney chosen to run as Vice President. He being the former CEO of Haliburton, an oil industry services corporation. And according to my research, sure enough back in the late nineties, Cheney as the CEO was giving speeches to industry leaders warning about the peaking oil reserves around the world. He stated that the U.S. economy and Americans were facing a terrible crisis in the near future. “By some estimates, there will be an average of two percent annual growth in global oil demand over the years ahead, along with, conservatively, a three-percent natural decline in production from existing reserves.”… “That means by 2010 we will need on the order of an additional 50 million barrels a day.” Which is six times the daily production of oil out of Saudi Arabia today.
Cheney also warned that the oil industry needed to seriously begin research on alternative fuels and to begin implementing them as quickly as possible. It is no wonder that the Republicans picked him up as the Vice Presidential candidate. In addition, it is quite understandable that George W. Bush will not take Cheney off his ticket as VP. Bush would be lost without Cheney in such a crisis.
The only other obstacle the Republicans had was getting into power to handle this crisis. Well we all know what happened in Florida. And then later in the Republican influenced Supreme Court. It is obvious that the Republicans were willing to use any tool to be in the White House. It doesn’t take much imagination to realize that they considered the situation serous enough that they must secure their economy before other western nations realized the severity of the depletion of oil. Then, of course, the next step was to formulate a convincing political strategy to go to War with Iraq to position the U.S. for continued oil supply. But even though the U.S. has positioned itself in the Middle East to have some influence in the oil producing countries in that region, it is very possible that the reserves may be much less than they had hoped.
Just how bad a situation are we in?
Other indications that the crisis will happen sooner rather than later:
As soon as Arnold Schwarzenegger was elected as Governor of California passed legislation to begin building hydrogen gas stations up and down the California coast to service hydrogen cars. Does have inside information not available to the public?
GE just announced that they have signed a deal with the European Economic Union to begin immediately to build hydrogen gas stations to service hydrogen cars throughout Europe.
The world stock exchanges have become especially sensitive to any oil industry news, causing much volatility in the markets.
The price of gas at the pumps has been steadily climbing this past couple of years.
Apparently the U.S. has established eight new military bases north of Afghanistan on the Caspian Sea. I have not been able to confirm this.
After reviewing all of the data, it is not difficult to understand why France, Germany and Russia were extremely unhappy with the U.S. incursion into Iraq. France and Russia were already heavily involved in the existing Iraqi oil fields, and these countries including Germany certainly would lose their influence over that supply not just in Iraq but in all of the Middle East. They would need to compete with the U.S. to fill their needs, which could be much more difficult if the U.S. had military bases in the Middle East. All of the documents I perused stated that there is good chance that many of the oil producing countries have overly inflated the numbers on their oil reserves. And according to some industry experts, the numbers given for reserves included oil that is too expensive to get out of the ground. There is just not enough pump pressure. In other words, these countries have already reached their peak oil and are in the phase of depletion. Thus the situation could even be worse than they think.
There are even other factors that make the crisis inevitable. China’s escalating needs for oil to fuel their mammoth economy are expected to rise 30%, which by some estimates will take up 10% of the world’s oil output. Both Japan and China are rapidly trying to position themselves for Russia’s eastern oil reserves. This is a recipe for conflict. Read this article: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A10714-2004Jun27.html Japan is completely oil dependent for its economy and is very worried about China’s growing consumption. Also China has been aggressively trying to establish its presence in the Middle East. Thus you can understand why China was against the U.S. going into Iraq.
Although major oil companies around the world have been pouring billions of dollars into the search for new oil fields, only small patches have been found. So although world oil usage continues to rise, no new resources will meet increasing needs.
So how could this crisis affect ordinary citizens?
Think about it. Our whole society is based on oil. Our food supply is delivered by thousands of trucks to the supermarkets. Electrical generators use oil. Our homes are heated by oil or gas. Gasoline and oil keep our cars running. Much of our clothing is made from oil derivatives. Water filtration plants use fuel to pump fresh water to us. Sewage plants use pumps to keep the cities clean. Manufacturers use oil and fuel for the machines that produce goods.
Just coming up with hydrogen cars is not enough. It is anybody’s guess how expensive these alternative cars will be. How many ordinary people will be able to afford to purchase one? Also even if a new mode of transportation is found to get people back and forth to work, what will the workplace be like without sufficient electricity? We know that windmill farms are beginning to spring up across North America. Yes even Canada has sprinklings of these white windmills. But the assessment has been one of disappointment in the trials. They just do not generate enough electricity even for small communities. The only alternative is nuclear generation, and it takes years to get them online.
Apparently fuel cell locomotives are being developed for the military and for commercial use. The U.S. military is also testing fuel cell buses. However, there is no way that this new technology could be implemented to meet our modern society’s needs by 2006, 2008, or 2010.
So what does this all mean? It means that our government’s have known the life cycle of the global oil fields since the 1950’s and have ignored the need to address our fuel supply. Our governments have failed us. They have known that the supply of oil was not infinite. They knew our western civilization was based on a depleting resource. They knew our way of life had a tenuous hold on stability based only on oil supply. But they chose to pass the buck on to the next government in power to do what was necessary to meet this crisis. Now it is a new century and all information points to not just a growing energy crisis, but a crisis that is almost upon us. If all of the information that I found is correct, your family and mine are in for a rough time in the near future. It is time for us to pressure our governments to get off their fat xxxxx and take control of this situation. We the taxpayers elect these people and pay their fat salaries. It is time they did their job to protect our way of life.

A new report by the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) has showed remarkable statistics about how the world’s children are now at great risk.
The report shows that more than 640 million children don’t have sufficient shelter, while 140 million have never been to school. It also shows 400 million children do not have safe water to drink and 500 million live without basic sanitation. Another 90 million children starve.
The 1989 Convention on the Rights of the Child asked countries to help give children a healthy and protected up bringing however violence, aids and poverty are still at their worst. Nearly one in six children suffers from severe hunger and one in seven has no healthcare.
Carol Bellamy, executive director of Unicef, indicated that the main cause of the great risk is wars. Over 20 million children are forced from their homes due to fighting and 3.6 million, half of which are children, have died in such conflicts although a much higher number of children have died from indirect causes of the wars.
However, even though wars are a great cause it is not the only one. Over 30,000 children died last year which would have been prevented if they had adequate healthcare. Another half a million children under the age of 15 died last year and some 2.1 million children across the world are living with HIV. Fifteen million children have lost a parent to Aids, while 80 percent of who live in sub-Saharan Africa.
Carol Bellamy and the Unicef agree that the answer is simple. Over the last year the world’s nations have spent 712,000,000eu on weapons, whereas only 52 billion eu is needed to reach status quo.
Currently the United States spends over $400 billion a year on military equipment and $200 billion is currently going towards the war in Iraq.

Chilean Communist Party May Be Power Broker In January 15 Run-Off Election.
Chile’s Socialist Party candidate, Michelle Bachelet, soundly defeated her right wing opponents in the December 11 presidential vote but failed to obtain the 50% to become president. Chilean law requires a candidate receive at least 50% of the vote to obtain the presidency. The breakdown was Bachelet 45.95%, Sebastian Pinera of the National Renovation party 25.41%, Joaquin Lavin of the Independent Democratic Union party 23.22%, and Tomas Hirsch of the Humanist party and part of a coalition with Chile’s Communist party 5.40%, Most of Hirsch’s vote coming from the Communist Party.
After the initial presidential vote the two right wing candidates quickly formed a coalition against the Socialist parties Dr Michelle Bachelet. With the combined vote block of the two right wing candidates Bachelet’s lead is greatly reduced. With the likely support of the Chilean Communist party she will retain a narrow lead. Hirsch has split from his alliance with the CP and declared his independence, no longer a factor in the race. With many on the Right being Pinochet loyalists and Bachelet’s solid link with the Left the upcoming run off vote will indicate were Chile is at in Latin America’s current trend toward the Left. Chile’s outgoing Socialist president Lagos’s 70% approval rating may be an indicator. The background of the two candidates differ widely.
Dr Bachelet endured numerous personal tragedies in the years of Pinochet’s coup. Her father, Alberto Bachelet, an air force general loyal to president Salvador Allende, was tortured to death in 1974 by DINA, Pinochet’s secret police. In 1975 both then 23 year old medical student, Michelle Bachelet, and her mother, Angela Jeria, were kidnapped from their home by a gang of DINA men. Both were tortured and deprived of food and water. Because of intervention by some top military officials, the two women escaped execution and were instead exiled to Australia Under the junta. Many women and girls were raped, tortured, and executed. Most of the perpetrators remain unpunished. Bachelet and her mother spent almost 5 years in Australia, then she returned to Chile to do clandestine human rights work. She also became a medical doctor, treating victims of rape and torture committed by the U.S. supported junta. Most of the victims were members of Chile’s Socialist and Communist parties.
Democracy was restored in Chile in 1988. As a politically active outspoken critic of the U.S. supported fascist dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet, Bachelet became president Ricardo Lagos’s choice to head the national ministry of health. She served in this capacity from March of 2000 then in a stunning move, President Lagos appointed her defense minister in 2002. As a former victim of military crimes, this move signaled a complete overhaul of Chile’s military establishment. While she endorsed efforts to prosecute officers for their crimes against the civilian population, Bachelet obtained and continues to have the respect of the majority of the military and their families. There were over 3,000 murdered by the junta during the Pinochet years, a national wound that has not yet healed. “There was a group of Pinochet supporters who thought when the wives of the disappeared died off, the problem will die with it,” Bachelet said, “But their children and grandchildren have taken up the flag.”
Sebastian Pinera, a PhD in economics and a successful businessman, has strong ties to the media and is said to be a billionaire. He has had an ongoing affiliation with the Chilean Right. Despite the harsh realities of the past, the current president Ricardo Lagos as well as his likely successor, Dr. Bachelet, have their vision set firmly on the future, dealing with the current complexities of the economy, social issues, and the environment. Bachelet will have to take a closer look at The CP’s three platform positions, greater democratization to fully break away from the rights undue influence on Chile’s political system. A reconsideration of Chile’s privatized healthcare system and better pension fund system. Time will tell.

A new generation of betters will certainly have seen the term “offshore sports betting” in recent times, though are not wholly confident of what it conveys. An overseas gaming web site basically operates extraneous to the rule of any specific country instead it can mean an on-line gambling internet site that places its file servers in a land in which online sports betting isn’t illegal. In short then, it’s a sports gambling web site operative independently of the rule of the land of the gambler. Online betting world wide web sites are now modulated by 3 institutions. These are termed the OSGA (the Offshore Gaming Association), the IGC (Interactive Gaming Council) and the Fidelity Trust Gaming Association FTGA.
The Offshore Gaming Association are a nonpartisan institute that keeps checks on the current offshore sports gaming business with a duty to present sports gaming lovers the capacity to easily identify acclaimed businesses to play betting games on, without anguish. It seeks to preserve gambling fan’s rights, additionally they don’t charge any society costs.
The OSGA is a competent not to mention nonpartisan third party company which conveys impartial information, founded on your feedback, unprejudiced inquiry, phone discussions, inside information also imparts industry information.
The Interactive Gaming Council are a non-profit-making organization. The organisation has been designed to furnish a platform for concerned participants to address issues and to boost mutual matters in the international online gaming trade, to ensure reasonable not to mention healthy commercial codes and practises that heighten buyer trust in interactive wagering products and utilities, and also to work as the gaming trade’s inclusive policy representative furthermore the IGC supplies an info center.
The Interactive Gaming Council has established a distinction for developing honesty, equity and solidity due to its rigid ethical code, and in addition its allure for concerns of honorable practise. The Interactive Gaming Council governs offshore sports gaming through utilising a specific 10 point working code and in addition bills gambling websites license fees to feature their logo. Disillusioned gambling devotees can, should they wish, air any of their differences of opinion to the IGC.
The Fidelity Trust Gaming Association has been formed in an attempt to set a benchmark to upgrade the transactions of internet sports gambling sites. The IGC hope that by partnering only with enterprises of good standing, they are able to mold a union of the most trustworthy and most proficient online betting operations world-wide.
So, there are agencies which guide the conduct practised by web based sports betting and which should help to alleviate a lot of the misgivings felt by doubters. Computer accessible gambling web sites are entirely free from risk, beacuse individual details are not demanded and the recompense and the odds are as equal and honest as in a common Vegas-type stake. These websites do away with traveling, but preserve the atmosphere of a Vegas-style gaming internet site, but today you are able to game at your own computer.

Before the companies realise they don’t have to give them away!
I just treated myself to a mobile broadband connection, and it’s great! I’ve only played around with it a bit but it really does seem like the real deal. Great speeds for surfing the Internet, the ability to work or browse anywhere I want and I get to show off about being one of the first to get a new technology. What more could I want? More young people voted for who should win Big Brother than in the 2001 General Election. The average eighteen year old can name more past Pop Idol contestants than members of the cabinet. Are young people really not interested in those who govern their lives or is politics plain unfashionable?
Let’s admit it. A lot of politics is boring. Fashion, sport and the media all hold a glamour that politics can’t easily compete with. Tony Blair’s past ambitions of becoming a rock star are not going to send youngsters flooding to the polls. Scantily clad dancing girls are not going to sex up the budget… politics isn’t about that. People in suits don’t excite youngsters as they seem to have little in common with them. Yet show teenagers a petition against animal testing and most would jump at the chance to sign it. Because, “That’s not really politics, is it?”
Politicians do not need to dredge up stories of their forgotten youth. Instead they should be concentrating on showing youngsters just how they can influence issues that matter to them through politics. CD prices, the legalisation of cannabis and saving the world all have much greater appeal than pensions and taxation. Get young people involved on the issues that concern them, and show them how much more effective their voices can be in an organisation that lays down the very laws that govern our country than a pressure group.
Democracy is a wonderful thing and affects us all. We need to prove to young people that, like them, we have strong beliefs and are not afraid to stand up for what matters. It is the duty of politicians to properly represent every member of the British public, regardless of whether they can vote yet.
