Carp Fishing: Tips and Advice to Get You Started

Posted in Fisherman's Den

Carp fishing is a very rewarding hobby because these fish are really intelligent and aren’t so easily persuaded to take the bait. Nevertheless, with a bit of trickery, you can tempt carp and fool them into being your latest catch. Here are just some useful tips to help you when fishing for carp:-

  • Use fishmeal boilies in the finer weather (summer and autumn), and try your luck with 50/50 mixtures or even birdfood bait in the finer weather (winter and spring)
  • Add a big quantity of salt to particle baits, especially the cooked types like maize, hemp, tares, partiblend seeds, beans, maple peas and chick peas. The carp enjoy the taste of salty foods. Approximately, mix one tablespoon of salt to five litres dry particles. These are also good cheap baits to use!
  • Try adding spicy chillies to some particle baits. The carp fish seem to love that hot “kick” from those spices. Approximately, mix 2 tablespoons to 5 litres particles.
  • Add high sources of vitamin C into the bait. Stir up your method with fruit juice rather than lake water. Also experiment with soaking fresh boilies in fruit juice so as to to give that well-defined flavour.
  • Whenever you can, make sure not to stick round bait on the hook. So many fishing lines sport rounded bait, you want to be different. Experiment with squaring the hook bait using scissors.
  • Lastly, make sure you have the right fishing gear with you. Research what you should bring online. You can find all kinds of things online, such as carp barrows - and be sure to enjoy the experience!
