We ask that you take care of your academic robes while attending New World Magic School for Wizards. Maintenance and care of your robes will show that you have pride, not only in yourself, but also in your school. While the mortal world does not embrace wizards as they once did and most mortals do not even realize that wizards still exist, we do need to present ourselves as proud of what we do and who we are.
We are the keepers of the remaining magic in the world and this includes protecting those mythical and magical creatures that still exist in our world. While mortals may have killed off most of the remaining magical creatures, some of them fled through the gateway when we did, back in 1423. We had no choice to but to try to protect those magical creatures that we could. We have the unicorn stable, down by the mermaid lake, both of which will only come out if they see our academic robes.
Mermaids, contrary to the popular sailor myths, are a very shy creature and will not come out very readily, unless they know they will be safe. While mermaids used to be very open and willing to help out mortals when they needed it, they have since learned that mortals do not always have their best intentions at heart. While they could hide beneath the waves in the mortal world for years, since mortals started to explore the oceans more, they feared that they would be discovered, so they fled here, to be safe with us.
Unicorns have been here much longer than the mermaid colony has been. They came here when they were very few of them left, only half a dozen or so where left when they came to us here. They have since grown in numbers since they have been here, but are not ready, by any means, to return to the mortal world. If you do not identify yourself as a wizard by wearing your academic robes when you go down to the stable, you are taking the chance of being harmed by going down there. While unicorns are a very docile creature, by nature, they can be very violent if they believe their lives or the lives of one of their herd could be in danger.
Mortals used to hurt the unicorns for their horns, but it was senseless death. They would kill the unicorn, take their horn, but leave their body to rot in the sun. It was not a very graceful death for such a magnificent and elegant creature.
So, as you can see, with just the few examples I have given you, please make sure to wear your academic robes at all times, if possible, when exploring the grounds. While most creatures will just hide if they do not see your robes, some will attack you, believing that you are a mortal that has made its way into their world. By taking precautions, you can have a wonderful experience and be able to meet many new creatures and wonderful friends.
