The Link Factor

There are many different approaches and techniques required when optimising a website for a high ranking in your chosen search engine. In most cases loads of informative, relevant content is required as well as plenty of outgoing links to separate you from the cat like competition.

But one of the most important factors that the search engines consider when reviewing your site is the amount of other webmasters (the owner of a website) linking to your website. The reason that this is considered vital is because it is an off the page factor, meaning that it is not directly under your control. Therefore it will be an indication of your sites popularity when another site links to you via their web page. However it is not enough to submit your site to any webmaster in the hope they incorporate a link to you in their site.

The search engines look for links from websites of relevance to yours, popularity of that linking site and keywords relating to your site included in the link text. Google is unique in terms of how it evaluates a page. It uses a process called page rank which will give a website a rating of between 0 -10 in accordance with its popularity.

To find out the page rank of a website all you have to do is download the google toolbar and it will display on a green bar what the websites page rank is. This is an important factor but it is not an indication as to where a page will rank as google will analyse many other factors including the title tag, content, prominence etc.

The best way to increase you page ranking is to either add further content or find others to link to your site, both of which I will explain further down. To identify your link popularity visit addme.com and click on popularity. This tool will display all the sites that link to your or your competitor’s website, all you have to do is type in your web address. If you are finding it difficult to find websites to link to then visit linkpartners.com or type your competitors address into the link popularity tool and this will display all those that have linked to your competitors.

Where to place your link

There are many different ways that you can publicise your site on the internet, but below I have included 2 of the more popular methods.

Reciprocal Link

This involves you literally trading links with another webmaster and therefore increasing both web sites’ popularity. It is important that you target the correct web site, as a site that is not listed within google will not increase your popularity and will only consume more of your time, therefore it is best to target sites that have a page rank of 4 or above. This does not mean that you must reject all below this ranking it just means that you will have most success in increasing your popularity if you aim for sites with a page rank of 4 or above as these sites are already considered as popular sites by google. Treat your outgoing links like precious gems as you do not wish to be spotted linking to irrelevant sites. If your site has a low page rank then do not take it into consideration as most people are not aware of the page rank system, so you only need to inform webmasters if your site has a good page rank.

Approaching Webmasters

Once you have identified a relevant, popular site you will need to approach the webmaster. This is the most important part of your link campaign as it will determine whether or not you site is accepted. When approaching webmasters you should include the following:

  • Your web address in the subject line

  • Inform the webmaster that you particularly enjoyed reading a certain article or that you enjoyed browsing through the user-friendly forum or anything else that indicates to the webmaster that you have actually visited their site. This will show the webmaster that you are not just spamming masses of sites in the hope that your link will appear.

  • Tell the webmaster why he or she should link to your site. Make sure that you state similarities between the two sites and other important information that will help sway his or her opinion.

  • If possible include the webmasters name

  • Inform the webmaster that you have placed a link to their site on your home page in a prominent position (do this before you approach the webmaster).

Promote your articles

If you enjoy creating content then you may consider writing an article and distributing it so that others can include it on their site. When the article is included on someone else’s site then it will include your link, therefore you receive another link to your site. You may want to set restrictions on the distribution of the article, such as:

  • The article must include your name and link at the bottom of the page

  • It must not be modified

  • It can only be used on sites that have a page rank of 4 or above

  • You retain copyright of the article

This will prevent un-suitable websites from displaying your article.

Aim At The Bullseye And Your Online Home Business Will Prosper

Traffic is one thing, but targeted traffic is everything.

You have no doubt seen dozens of offers similar to “10,000 hits
per hour driven to your website!”. This type of website traffic
is completely untargeted and will undoubtedly result in a very
low conversion ratio. It’s basically “throw it up against the
wall and hope something sticks”. The big incoming numbers give
the illusion of progress, but you will achieve better results
with a lower volume of highly targeted traffic.

I speak from experience because in the early days of developing
my home business, I went for the big numbers instead of focusing
on targeting prospects. It took me a while to appreciate the
importance of targeting (quality) instead of just going for the
big numbers, but it was a lesson well learned.

Exchanging links has been an important part of generating website
traffic for quite some time, but the vast majority of people
looking to trade links don’t understand that just wildly swapping
links with any willing webmaster is not the way to go.

For the last few years, most webmasters have been in a “pleasing
Google” mode since Google had such a dominant position. Now that
challengers are emerging, most notably Yahoo, MSN, and Ask
Jeeves, the search engine ranking landscape is becoming much more
complicated than just marching to the tune Google played.

Many website owners seem to be of the opinion that the sole
purpose of exchanging links is to try to improve the search
engine ranking position of their website. While it is true that
links pointing to your website can help your search engine
ranking, the reason for obtaining inbound links goes far deeper
than that.

In my opinion, the targeted traffic that relevant links pointing
to your site will bring can be as important as the traffic that
comes to your website from people using search engines. This is
where linking philosophy comes in. If you limit yourself to
exchanging links only with websites that have a theme highly
relevant to your own, the traffic you receive from those links
will be far more targeted (valuable) than traffic you might
receive from links with websites that have nothing to do with
your theme.

Not only do highly relevant links bring you more highly targeted
traffic, but they also play a “customer satisfaction” role for
visitors to your website who arrived there as a result of a
search engine query. If someone arrives at your website after
performing a search for, lets say “work at home” and then finds
your website full of links to a bunch of off topic sites (Viagra,
online casinos, hotel reservations, sports betting, etc, etc)
the impression is often not favorable and may actually drive
your visitor away before they consider whatever it is that your
website itself is offering.

Keep your eye on the bullseye and develop highly targeted traffic
by having good content on your website and exchanging links with
highly relevant sites that also offer good content. Remember,
traffic is one thing, but targeted traffic is everything.

How to Drive Laser-Targeted Traffic - 7 Ways

by Fred Farah

How to Drive Laser-Targeted Traffic - 7 Ways that you can use, and really benefit from.

As an affiliate marketer you may have all the attributes needed to succeed. You may have the necessary drive, diligence and perseverance to be able to understand how the system works. You may even have all the tools necessary to maintain the business, including a really unique and interesting website which could earn you a fortune.

If only the whole world could see it!!

However, all the above would prove useless if you don’t know how to drive traffic to your website. Your business would sink into oblivion unless you knew how to actually drive traffic effectivly.

Getting people to see your website is a difficult undertaking if you consider that your rivals are waiting to cut your legs out from under you. The immensity of the internet as well as the affiliate marketing world, has given birth to fierce competition between affiliate marketers, each of whom has his own great product to offer.

With all the websites piling on top of each other, how would you be able to stand out? Here are the seven best ways to drive laser-targeted traffic to your own website.

1 - Know your market through and through.

It’s important for traffic to be targeted to those who have a special interest in the theme or topic of your website. This way, a solid customer base is going to be created. Once a potential customer shows an interest in your website and your newsletter, then don’t lose them by failing to provide great information they’re looking for.

2 - The next step in driving traffic to your website is by relying on search engines and what they can do for the affiliate marketer concerned. Because they are popular for driving free targeted traffic, they should not be ignored by any means. Having top search engine rankings is vital to building popularity links, and the use of the right keywords is important in attaining this goal. Once a website is on top of the list, it is easily accessible to anyone who wants to find it for himself.

3 - The next step is link exchange Contact other webmasters for a possible link exchange partnership. Locating websites that are related to yours is the primary task. Once there, you need to establish communication by personalizing your communication with other webmasters. If you use a plain form letter, it may not get read.

4 - The next step is through writing your own articles. or at least posting releveant guest author’s articles on your site. This is an effective way to promote a website, because good content is what people are looking for.

If satisfied with the quality of your content, they will come back for more. And what’s more powerful than repeat visitors who have grown to trust you and your site. At the time of this writing, Best Affiliate Products reached 330 pages of great content. Search engine traffic is increasing daily, and people are staying longer and reading more pages.

5 - The fifth is through joining affiliate programs. Having affiliates to do the work means allowing them to bring tons of traffic to the merchant’s website through their promotion of his product. Increased sales would be realized as a result, and both the affiliate and the seller will benefit.

6 - The next step is through joint ventures. This is one of the most effective ways of promoting a product or a service. Having a partner with a targetted list is beneficial to both parties, as it allows them to reach a wide customer base in a short amount of time.

7 - And finally, have a list of subscribers that you can write to on a regular basis. This is your most valuable asset. The use of autoresponders to send out your personalized newsletters is the best way of benefitting from your list. Letting them know about new products and services through a cleverly prepared regular newsletter is almost a guarantee of success.

Traffic generating strategies are important in making your affiliate marketing career surge forward. It’s always to your advantage to plan your moves in whatever business you undertake. This is particularly so in affiliate marketing. Once you know how to get people to see what your site has to offer, then you’re on the right track to affiliate gold.

Now it’s time to move forward, by taking action on these tips. 7 tips or 20 tips will achieve nothing until you act. Just do it…now!

The Nuts And Bolts Of Traffic Exchanges

Traffic Exchanges. What are they? How do they work? What do they do?

First of all, a “Traffic Exchange” is exactly that, a way to exchange traffic, a way to get visitors to your site. This happens by you visiting sites, in exchange for pageviews to your site.

There are LOTS of Traffic Exchanges out there. Some good, some bad, but most of them work in basically the same ways. You join, visit sites, refer others and build up credits.

There are 2 main types of Traffic Exchanges (there`s actually a few more types of exchanges, but these are the ones we`ll concentrate on here):

Manual Surf and Auto Surf.

With manual surf, you have to click on a button to get to the next site, with auto surf, you can sit back and watch the pages change automatically, without having to lift a finger. Nowadays, the trend seems to be that the exchanges offer multiple choices for surfing: manual, auto, different timers (15, 20 or 30 seconds before next site). A lot of them now offer games while surfing, as a chance to earn extra credits.

Traffic Exchanges give out credits and bonuses in a multitude of ways. Some give bonus credits for signing up, or for referring others, or even while you`re surfing the exchange, after you`ve visited a certain amount of sites. Almost ALL Traffic Exchanges give you a percentage of the credits your referrals build up, so it`s always a good idea to build a good downline in them. Some exchanges let you use your credits in different ways too: buying banner impressions, lottery tickets, referrals, scratchcards, just to name a few

One thing to take serious note of is the timers, and how long it actually takes your page to load, If you`re using a 15 second timer, and your page takes 20 seconds to load, people won`t see it before it`s time to click on to the next site. The best pages to use in Traffic Exchanges are small, fast loading, attention grabbing so-called “splash pages”. You can link to the page you want people to see from the splashpage, or add a box where people can request more information via email. If you can make your splash page interesting enough, then getting people to click a link on it shouldn`t be too hard.

If what you need is a ton of quick hits to your sites, use autosurfers with 15 second timers. You can still get signups/requests for more info IF your site loads fast enough, and really yells out to the viewer. If you want your site to actually be seen, with maybe better signup rates, opt for the manual exchanges and 30 second timers. This forces people to stay at your site longer, which in turn could make them pay more attention to your site.

Be aware that a lot of Traffic Exchanges don`t allow the use of popups, rotators or re-directors on whichever site you`re promoting, as they are very hard to keep track of and can include very unsavoury stuff such as a virus or even porn. It`s ALWAYS a good idea to use a popup killer when you`re surfing the traffic exchanges. I personally use a program called KillAd, which is brilliant in terminator mode….hehehe. Apart from the risk of reaching “nasty” sites, popups can really drain your computers resources, making it sluggish and slow.

Most Traffic Exchanges these days have both free and paid options, where the paid option is basically just an enhancement of free, making it easier to gain credits and referrals, although some of them DO allow you to earn a commission on referral upgrades.

In closing: You will most likely come across “cheat programs/software made specifically to cheat the traffic exchanges. They work by racking up credits for you, without you having to actually USE the exchange. Whatever you do, DON`T use them! Apart from the fact that you`ll most likely lose your accounts in the traffic exchanges, can you imagine if everybody was using them? Nobody would see any sites, and nobody would get any results.

Above all, keep all your promotional efforts honest.

Submitting Your Articles To E-zines and Viral Marketing

Viral Marketing Defined

It is allowing others to giveaway and use your free product or service in order to multiply your marketing quickly over the internet. The idea behind viral marketing is that you include your ad with the freebie people giveaway or use.

But to become successful, you must totally understand the concept in order to get the most out of it.

Brand your web site, business and yourself by submitting articles to e-zines. You could include your name, business name, your credentials, web site address and e-mail address in
your resource box. An example of a resource box is -

jerry durham lonestar enterprises - opportunity to succeed
http://www.freewebs.com/opportunity_to_succeed/
5705 marvin loving dr suite 202
garland, tx 75043

You could include something like the above at the end of each of your articles, specifing, that the resource box, as it is known, would stay with the article in the event it was used
as copy in a ezine, ebook, etc.

Understand and know, or better yet, become known as an expert on the topics you write about. This will give you and your business extra credibility which will help you compete against
your competition. Face it, if you don’t know what you’re talking about. it will become very well known around the net, spreading like a “VIRUS”. You’ll gain people’s trust. If they
read your article, like it, and they believe you, they won’t be as hesitant to buy your product or service. You will then be able to increase your profits.

Having your article placed on a publishers home page or archives will give you extra exposure. Future subscribers might want to read the back copies before they subscribe. I have several articles in archive, one of which is -

Submiting your article to a publisher that has a free content directory on their web site, allows visitors to republish your article. Some sites are below -

Other publishers might want to publish your articles in their free e-books. These ebooks are given away, and your advertising could multiply all over the web. Agree to run someone
else’s article in your ezine, if they’ll run your article in theirs. It’s a win/win situation.

This is all free advertising that allows you to spend your money elsewhere on other forms of advertising. Such as, buying ad space in other ezines that don’t publish your articles.

And speaking of money, if your good enough, you could write other peoples articles, ebooks, speak at seminars, etc. This is a great way to multiply your income.

All the Best…
