Replacing Your Steering Wheel

Posted in Wheelers

An important part of your whole vehicle is the steering wheel. Imagine your vehicle without it and it would seem like you could go nowhere. That is because the steering wheel is a steering control. It is manipulated by the driver and it becomes a channel that directs that control towards the rest of the vehicle.

Upon purchasing a vehicle, you could actually note that some vehicles contain a good looking steering wheel while for other vehicles the steering wheel simply looks dull. That is why many people often try to replace their vehicle’s original steering wheel with one that would not only suit their tastes and would suit their vehicle, but they would also try to find the right kind of steering wheel that could respond and perform excellently according to the directions given by the vehicle’s driver.

If you would like to replace you vehicle’s original steering wheel, it would be best if you are armed with ample and the right kind of information regarding the original one. You should know the measurements of the original steering wheel so that when you purchase a replacement, you would be able to find a new one that would fit and work well with your vehicle. Keep in mind that when you choose the new one, you should make sure that the new steering wheel would not actually obstruct your view of the gauges on your dashboard.

Locate the right kind of store to purchase the steering wheel of your choice. If you have no idea yet as per what kind of steering wheel you would like to have for your vehicle, ideas are available in automobile magazines, in auto shops and auto parts stores, and online as well. You can also ask your friends and family where they purchased new steering wheels.

Remember that steering wheels come in various styles. There are four spoke steering wheels, three-spoke ones, multi-color, boomerang-style, ultra-tech style, and even Formula One style racing steering wheels. Try to choose the right one that would not give you much confusion yet would give you satisfaction. Also, you have to choose what kind of finish you would like your steering wheel to have. Some of the choices to choose from include wood, vinyl, leather, and carbon fiber.

Free tips to beat a speeding ticket

Posted in Wheelers

Whether it’s your first ticket at sixteen or fourth at forty,
there is always a certain degree of frustration that comes with
not only having been pulled over, but knowing you have to deal
with a ticket and the points on your record and against your
insurance. All of these things lead to a search for information
on what to do next including talking to friends and family,
researching books for traffic laws and finding free tips to beat
a speeding ticket on the internet. When undertaking this kind of
search you don’t want your tips to come from just anyone but
someone proven in the field who can help you win your case. The
law is a rather complex thing, and most of us don’t personally
have a degree in legal documentation in order to wade through
the paper work and decide the best thing to do. So where does
one go to find verified free tips to beat a speeding ticket, and
how do you know when you have an information site worth using?

The things to remember when choosing to fight a speeding ticket
in court is that only about 5% of people ever bother fighting a
ticket instead of just paying for it. This makes traffic ticket
an over 14 billion dollar a year business. Of those 5% that
fight their case in court less than 1% defends themselves and of
those only a fraction wins their cases. Some of this fraction is
able to win based on technicalities of the ticket and the
citing, mostly in fatal problems found on the document itself.
Things such as an improper description of the vehicle, incorrect
address of citation, or an unsigned ticket are all obvious
things that may get a case dismissed, but what other things
should you look for? How do you know when to ask for dismissal
or to press the officer’s testimony?

Many internet sites offer free tips to beat a speeding ticket
but the best tips need to be backed up with an excellent level
of experience and knowledge, and information specific to the
laws of the state where the ticket was given. Without these
qualifications free tips to beat a speeding ticket are just
tips, and may or may not really help you become one of those few
people that win in the courtroom. When looking for information
from various websites look for guaranteed work and for
experience in the background of the service or company. As an
example the website www.ihatespeedingtickets.com
lists the service record of their founder, an ex police
officer, and guarantees the information that they provide with a
money back offer. As well this particular service lists the
states for which they can provide information and how national
standards affect your particular case. This type of information
on the service helps to solidify the reliability of the free
tips to beat a speeding ticket that are offered. Another
strength point in a website such as www.ihatespeedingtickets.com<
/a> is their open providing of links to other sites where
additional information to go along with the free tips to beat a
speeding ticket that they provide can be gathered. A final thing
to look for in a website is specialization. Some sites make
claims to be able to help with any type of legal ticket
encountered. While this is a supportable claim, it is often
helpful to search for sites like
www.ihatespeedingtickets.com who work only a particular type
of ticket and so have more specific information about that type
of law and documentation. No matter where you get your
information remember that free tips to beat a speeding ticket
are ways to begin to get your feet under you and find direction
after a citation. You have the right to defend yourself, and
there are many resources online that are ready to help.

Suzuki Aerio, 2006: The Weekly Driver

Posted in Wheelers

In January, 2004, the automotive industry arrived at another unique plateau. For the first time, the average price of a new car in the United States surpassed $30,000. Ironically, it was also only a few years ago, the same amount designated the minimum amount of a luxury car.

It’s also likely a safe assumption that many car buyers still can’t afford a $30,000 vehicle. Suppose, for example, a new car buyer has only $15,000 to spend. What’s available? And what’s a prudent purchase in the price range?

One good choice is the 2006 Suzuki Aerio SX. The 4-door economy wagon has a lot to offer. With every available option, the vehicle’s price is only slightly more than half the national average of a new vehicle.

My test drive for the week was the four-cylinder, 155-horsepower Aerio with a five-speed manual transmission. The vehicle’s standard features alone warrant a long look for economy shoppers: air conditioning, power windows/locks/mirrors, tilt steering wheel, AM/FM/6-CD changer and split folding rear seats. For the first time in 2006, Antilock brakes (ABS) are standard throughout the line.

But the Aerio offers a lot more — surprisingly quick acceleration to superior cargo room, substantial head room to an estimated 30 mpg on the freeway.
The Aerio is available in three models and with more than a dozen configurations, the base sedan ($13,999) to the SX with All-Wheel-Drive and a premium option package ($16,999).

My vehicle featured the nice exterior color of Tech Blue Metallic, complemented by a black cloth interior with a silver-toned instrument console. The car zipped around town, shifted smoothly and had a little “attitude” despite its lowly status an entry level wagon.

The SX model has 15-inch alloy wheels as a standard feature, but the larger wheels are an option for the standard 14-inch wheels on other models. The Aerio has a spacious rear cargo area and a surprisingly roomy cabin. The car’s wheelbase is only 99.6 inches, among the shortest in the compact vehicle glass. Yet the rear cargo area measures 63.7 cubic feet. That’s third largest to the Ford Focus Wagon (73.0) and Chrysler PT Cruiser Wagon (64.2). All Aerois have split rear seatbacks. They lay flat when the headrests are removed and with seat bottoms flipped forward.

The Aerio also has above average steering and handling, a particularly tight turning circle, and its instrumentation console features clearly marked gauges and easy-to-use controls. The automatic climate controls are standard, an unexpected feature for the price range.

The Honda Civic, Mazda 3 and Toyota Matrix are chief rivals and all have good legacies and good value in resale markets.

But the Aerio should not be overlooked as an option. With Suzuki’s 7-year, 100,000-mile warranty, the little car with the unique name has more going for it than the half-car status its price indicates.

Outrageous Gas Prices

Posted in Wheelers

The real cause of our current energy crisis of skyrocketing fuel prices - leading to our gas pains at the pump - is our failure to create alternative energy resources. Ouch. Pointing the finger at ourselves? Not going to happen…we always need a villain as the cause of our woe.

We can look to Washington and blame our various administrations. Many of us were not even born to witness the gas rationing during World War II. However many of us recall the late 70’s and early 80’s and how we were - excuse my choice of words - “over the barrel” when it came to crude oil prices. Following the lead of President Jimmy Carter, we turned our thermostats to 68?? degrees in the dead of winter in an effort to conserve energy.

These measures which attempted to rein in our dependency made for great headlines but little else.

We eventually cranked up the thermostats…once again purchased gas guzzling cars which we drove all over (consuming gazillions of galloons of crude) without any concern.

An energy conservation or energy alternative program? Please. There is plenty of cheap crude oil to last us hundreds of years.

Wrong answer.

Crude oil is not a renewable energy source. Once you use barrel, it does not spontaneously regenerate another barrel to replace itself. It is gone and can never be replaced.

This is what oil producing nations have to be concerned about…their limited fossil fuel (oil) supply. Once it is gone, it is gone. There goes their oil dependent economy. (AND with their inability to supply us with crude…our economy will slide as well.)

Put yourself in the role of supplying a product, any product, which is heavily in demand and you only have the ability to sell so much. Would you try to extract the most amount of money for it?

This is exactly what is happening to fuel prices right now. That gas pump is trying to extort an obscene amount of money from you because of limited supply of crude yet we - along with other developed and developing countries - demand more and more.

The solution.

Ready for this?

The solution is simple. Simple economics.

The plan to execute the solution is extremely complex.

First the solution: we have to cut down on crude oil demand which would then lead to an overabundance of supply. Oil tankers will continue to be loaded with crude and no place to unload as the demand for their loads has been substantially decreased.

Increased crude supply (due to no one wanting all the crude that is being produced) caused by lower demand for it equals major reductions of crude oil prices by the oil producing countries.
How does this happen?

Alternative sources of energy with a heavy concentration of renewable energy such as the sun or wind power. (I am not even going to mention a few of the other alternative energy sources such as grain or vegetable oil converted to fuel.)

We have the ability to get ourselves out of this gas pain at the gas pump.

The more we can encourage American imagination, the sooner our answer will come to relieve our gas pains. The sooner our answer will come to decrease our demand for crude. The sooner will crude supplies start to fill crude storage tanks in oil producing countries. Prices will have to radically fall to move this crude as our alternative energy technology spreads worldwide.

Are Kids on Wheels Safe in Public?

Posted in Wheelers

Electric scooters are all the rage for kids and teens nowadays.
Instead of the old foot-push kind, today’s merchants sell
motorized scooters that operate from batteries. This makes it
very easy for a child to climb aboard his scooter and jet off
down the street without letting parents know of his whereabouts.
Well-trained children might ask permission first, but anyone in
the excitement of this new toy could very well drive off without
a single thought of accountability.

Even with a parent’s permission, though, should kids be allowed
to drive motor scooters in public? Numerous safety concerns come
to mind, especially for kids under the age of about twelve. Here
are some of the issues that parents ought to consider before
getting their kids this electric transportation device:

1. Do drivers need a license? If so, this means the child needs
to be of a certain age before hitting the streets on his
scooter. Find out about local laws governing your neighborhood
before getting your child an electric scooter. Also find out
something about your locale, because in some areas, the
governing boundaries can change within a few blocks from city to
town or village to county jurisdiction.

2. Don’t let your child leave home alone. Insist that he take
along a friend the same age, since there’s safety in numbers. In
fact, two or three friends might work even better. With so many
abductions taking place these days, it is not a good idea for
kids to be out cruising the neighborhood on their own. Too many
things can happen, whether it be an abduction, an accident, or a
confrontation. Very young children should not leave the family
property, and should be supervised at all times when playing
outdoors.

3. Get your children fingerprinted and make sure they carry
identification. This could help in case they disappear, wander
off, or get hurt, though hopefully none of those things will
happen. Have the kids tell you where they will be playing and
when they will return. Go over the instructions of what to do if
the electric scooter runs out of power or has a flat tire.

4. Explain the safe use of the electric scooter. Tell your
children why they shouldn’t ride double or try to do tricks on
the scooter. Describe areas where they can ride it, and which
places to avoid (like swampy areas or stone-crusted roads). Be
sure they know how to operate the scooter completely before
taking it out on the sidewalk.

5. Give them a cell phone or change for a public telephone. In
case of emergency, they need to be able to reach you. Make sure
they know the number to call in case you will be gone for
awhile, even if it’s just next door to visit with a neighbor.

Electric scooters are fun to ride, but they do provide kids
with more opportunities to drive out in public thoroughfares and
away from parents’ watchful eyes. Follow suggestions like these
to protect your children when they climb on wheels and head down
the road.
